Rome International Cinema Festival

The Fondazione Cinema per Roma  was born the 13th of February 2007 on the initiative of the City of Rome, the Lazio Region, the  Province of Rome, Chamber of Commerce of Rome and Rome's Music Foundation - is the entity that organizes the International Film Festival of Rome, now in its sixth edition (October 27 to November 4, 2011).

Between 2006 and 2010, the event - which takes place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and in other areas such as Via Veneto, the famous street of the "Dolce Vita" - has hosted major international premiere films, actors and directors the likes of Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Meryl Streep, meetings with the public, documentaries, retrospectives, exhibitions, concerts and live performances. Through the International Film Market, the Festival will also appeal to professionals, promoting the circulation and sale of audiovisual products and supporting the production of independent film.

In 2009, the Festival has recorded 600 000 visitors for a total of about 100 000 tickets issued. According to research by the Rosselli Foundation, in collaboration with Common Spaces, the economic value of the festival industries amounts to 220 million euros. This means that 1 euro invested by the government returns 38 euros to the city of Rome and its territory.

The Fondazione Cinema per Roma also organizes during the year a series of events and appointments:

"Journey into American Cinema", the format that brings actors and directors from overseas to deal directly with the public. In recent years, has hosted, among others, Tim Burton, John Turturro, Todd Solondz, director James Ivory, Spike Lee, Sydney Pollack, Arthur Penn, Joel and Ethan Coen, Frances McDormand, Jane Fonda, David Lynch, Sidney Lumet, Jonathan Demme, Milos Forman, Jim Jarmusch, Michael Cimino, Terry Gilliam, Ethan Hawke, Susan Sarandon, Paul Schrader, Wes Anderson.
"Waiting for the Festival", a series of meetings between school kids all over Italy and their heroes on the big screen. Among the teachers exceptional, Jodie Foster, Giovanni Veronesi, Sergio Castellitto, Valeria Solarino, Claudia Gerini, Luisa Ranieri, Riccardo Scamarcio, Claudio Santamaria, Carolina Crescentini, Valerio Mastandrea, Nicholas Vaporidis Argentero Luke, Valeria Golino, Isabella Ragonese and Michele Riondino.
The launch preview of the film who attended the Festival of Rome and about to face the Italian theatrical release. The projection is supported by the meeting with the director or a star. This year, the Foundation has hosted Cinema for Rome - Auditorium Parco della Musica and the Casa del Cinema in Rome - the projection for the public to Kill Me Please, grave robbers, The Man Who Will, The Concert, Brotherhood Konianski and Simon and a discussion with their directors (Olias Barco, John Landis, George Straight, Radu Mihaileanu, Nicolo Donato and Micha Wald).
Between 2009 and 2010, the festival "Emanuele Luzzati. Fantasies ", dedicated to the famous animator, painter, illustrator and designer of Genoa and set up at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.
"The trades of the cinema", a series of meetings free and open to the public, professionals and technicians of the film industry to study issues relating to the making of a film, in collaboration with universities. In 2010, attended by Giuseppe Lanci, director of photography, Mario Gianani, manufacturer, Paola Gonzo, and Philip Porcari designer, sound technician.



The 2010 budget of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma is around 13.5 million euros and comes - to 70 percent - from private funding.
